Syrel (S.A.) Galliher passed away October 1, 2017 after complications from a massive heart attack.
He was born to Vernice “Rose” Smith and Foy R. Galliher of Malta, Id. He was raised in the Malta area and graduated from Malta High School. After graduation, he signed-up for the Army and served in California, Georgia and Germany until 1960. After serving in the military, he married Coleen Aneta Hall and had four children. They later divorced.
He worked for Raft River Electric in accounting and then later moved the family to Heppner, Oregon to work for Columbia Basin Electric. His entrepreneurial spirit kicked-in and he decided to run the Harris Drive-In in Heppner. Later he opened Western Fuel Inc. and had a gas station in Phoenix, and a cleaning business. In his later life, he worked for the Phoenix Sun. Dad was proud of the fact that he was independent, very active and working till the day of his heart attack. Some of his passions in life were: Horses (he rode in the rodeo circuit for 10 plus years), Western and Indian Art, coin collecting, and day trading in the stock market. He was active in the Phoenix Jaycee’s for years and was voted Jaycee of Year for his many contributions.
He is survived by his four children: Sheryl Pokorny of Ogden, Ut, Clayton & Kay Galliher of Mukilteo, WA, Kirk & (Tara) Johnson of Sparks, NV and Craig & (Valerie) Staker of Huntsville, Ut. His two brothers and two sisters: Earl & Edda Galliher of Burley, ID, Ralph & (Virginia) Williams of Burley, ID, Hugh Galliher of Jerome, ID, and Kerry & (Roseanna) Robinson of Bliss, ID, ten grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by both of his parents, his sister Violet, and grandparents.
Services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Malta, LDS Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Viewing will be from noon until 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place in the Malta Cemetery.
