On Monday, July 8, 2013, Richard Kent “Woody” Woodland, age 85, of Albion, went home to be with his Heavenly Father.

He leaves behind many that loved him: his wife, Lee of 33 years; five children, Ann (Mike) Miller, Kay (Mike) Johns, Kirk Woodland, Doug Woodland and Jill (Tim) Toller; four stepchildren, Janine (Will) Holdaway, Terry (Mich) Van Wagoner, Deb Sutherland and Rick (Angel) Van Wagoner; 12 grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 37 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Hartell Woodland; one sister; three brothers; a daughter, Janet (Jared) Williams; one granddaughter; one step-grandson; and one step-great-granddaughter.

He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. He loved to tell stories, and people (especially his family) loved to hear them. He had a great sense of humor. He loved to give but it was hard for him to take from others. We, your family, will greatly miss you, Woody. We love you so much.

Woody and his wife owned and operated two restaurants — one in Malta and one in Burley. He owned Frenchman’s Island in partnership with his father, milked cows, farmed and was a wood shop, algebra and science teacher at the Burley High School and Burley Junior High School until he retired from teaching in 1980. Woody was a Marine during World War II and was proud to have served his country.

Our family expresses their sincere appreciation to Dr. Kevin Owens for his loving care of Woody and to all of his caregivers.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Albion LDS Church. Burial will follow at the Valley Vu Cemetery in Malta, with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization. Friends and family may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St. in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
