Janet H. Bankhead, 82, of Malta, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert, surrounded by family.
She was born Jan. 1, 1935, in Logan, Utah. She was the oldest of seven children born to Cleon and Leah Jorgensen Humphreys.
She attended elementary school in Millville, Utah and graduated high school from South Cache.
She married Gerald Bankhead in the Logan LDS Temple on July 8, 1955. They lived in Wellsville, Utah until 1977, when they moved to Malta, Idaho, where she resided until she passed.
Janet was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities; including Relief Society President, Compassionate Service Leader, Primary Teacher, Visiting Teacher Supervisor and Scout Leader.
She was blessed with three children; a son, Jerry (Lisa) Bankhead of Malta; daughter, Rachel Bankhead (deceased); and daughter, Connie (Rich) Redman of Albion.
During her life one could always find her serving those around her. She took great pride in chauffeuring her widow friends to and from Burley for doctor appointments, lunch or groceries. Mom had a knack for keeping you laughing with her plentiful, witty one-liners.
“BIG Grandma” was adored by her grandchildren (16), and especially her great-grandchildren (17). Grandma loved teaching them nursery rhymes, reading stories and rocking them in her big chair.
Mom had many amazing gifts, but the one she spent hours and hours honing was her healing touch. If she could not heal you immediately you would get a call maybe an hour or even sometimes days later with a remedy she had researched. No was never an acceptable answer.
If you knew her, you loved her; if you ever visited her home you just wanted to curl up in her cozy warm home and take a nap. When you left she never let you leave without something. She will be dearly missed.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; daughter, Rachel; her parents; brothers, Orvan and Dale; and sister, Maurice.
The funeral will be held at 12 noon Friday, Jan. 20, at the Malta LDS Church, 280 N. 1st St., in Malta, with Bishop Dallan Spencer officiating. Friends may call from 11 until 11:45 a.m. preceding the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Valley Vu Cemetery in Malta.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in Janet’s name be sent to the Primary Children’s Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 58249, Salt Lake City, Utah 84158.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
