Charles Pierce 1931 – 2010 It is with profound sadness that the children of Charles (Chuck) Henry Pierce announce his passing. He was born in Malta, Idaho on July 17, 1931 and passed away in Burley, Idaho on August 7, 2010 while there to attend his 60 year class reunion. He grew up on a farm in the small town of Malta, Idaho where he attended Raft River High School and participated in numerous sports. After graduating he went on to attend Albion Normal School, a small local college, before joining the United States Marine Corps. During his time with the Marine Corps he did a tour of Korea and was everything from a drill sergeant, to an admiral’s driver, to a recruiter. All of which he took great pride in and did to the best of his ability. After his time in the Marine Corps he did everything from driving a Helms Bakery truck, to selling insurance for Prudential, to working for Banks Pest Control, and ultimately scouting for professional baseball teams including the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and the San Diego Padres. He also wrote a sports column when he lived in Bear Valley Springs, CA. He always loved the game of baseball and often coached little league and other baseball teams and was a big supporter of the Bakersfield Jr. College baseball team and the Bakersfield Blaze baseball team. He had four children with his former wife Marian Pellett: Sharon Smith, Diane Romine, Rick Pierce and Alicia Brown. He also had three stepchildren: Mark Luter, Brook Luter and Karen Oliveras. He was preceeded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey Pierce; his grandson, Jesse Pierce; his parents, Jesse and Lois Pierce; his brother, Monroe Pierce and sister, Jessie Pierce. He is survived by all his children and their respective spouses; his four grandchildren: Ben Pierce and wife Erica, Nichole Wills, Allen Pierce and Casey Pierce and his great grandchildren: Madison, Zachary, Dylan and Brittney. He is also survived by his brothers, Jim and Dale Pierce and his sister, Mary Lou Peak, their respective spouses and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his many, many cherished friends. A Memorial Luncheon in Chuck’s honor will be held Saturday, Oct. 2nd, at noon, in the home of Orland and Jan Banks, 4406 Knoll Dr. In lieu of any donations Chuck would rather have you remember him by taking your loved ones to a baseball game. As our Dad would say, “I’ll see you at the ballgame.” www.bakersfield.com/obits
