Mary Luana Meacham Barrett

Mary Luana Meacham Barrett, a 94-year-old resident of Malta, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Autumn Haven in Rupert.

She was born July 19, 1919, in Bountiful, Utah, the daughter of Francis Edgar and Ethel Fearnley Meacham. She was raised and received her education in Burley. She married Joseph W. Barrett on Dec. 16, 1937, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She has lived in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Sacramento and Patterson, Calif., finally settling in Malta.

Luana was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served faithfully in many positions. She has always been a good example to her family and friends. She loved being a wife and mother and made those around her feel loved and cared for. She was goal-oriented, organized, industrious and hardworking. She loved the Lord and showed it through always attending church, being prayerful and reading the scriptures daily. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by 10 of her 11 children, JoAnn Gray of Fair Oaks, Calif., Barbara Damon of Park City, Utah, Terry Barrett of Oakdale, Calif., Dennis Barrett of Puxico, Mo., Karen Gonzales of West Sacramento, Calif., Lynda Jansson of Elk Grove, Calif., Royce Barrett of Redding, Calif., Marva Lulloff of Santa Maria, Calif., Byron Barrett of Burley and Joe Barrett of Malta; and many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Bill Barrett; two brothers; and two sisters.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Malta LDS Church, with Bishop Richard Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Valley Vu Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St. in Burley, and from 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.

The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Malta 1st Ward Missionary Fund.
