Jeanette Bennett’s Obituary

Alice Jeanette Barlow Bennett, 83, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at her home in Malta.

She was born January 16, 1933, in Malta, Idaho, to Inez Smith and S.H. Barlow. Her grade school and high school days were spent in Malta. After graduating from Raft River High School in 1951, she went on to LDS Business School in Salt Lake City, Utah. She then took on a teaching job in Cokeville, Wyo. When Jeanette came back to the Salt Lake area, she worked for the Utah Fish and Game. It was then that she met and married James L. Bennett, the love of her life. They met in the North 18th Ward in September 1954, and Jim proposed to her Jan. 9, 1955. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, by Apostle LeGrand Richards, on April 22, 1955.

In May of that year, they moved to Holden, Utah, where Jeanette worked at the Millard County Courthouse in Fillmore. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Van Nuys, Calif., where both she and her husband worked at the General Motors Fisher Body Plant. In 1968, she moved back to Idaho, to help with family businesses. With Jim at the station, Jeannette helped her mother with the chickens until 1974, when was hired by Alvin Neddo as secretary for the Raft River Highway District. She enjoyed working in the 4-H program, loving every minute of it! She was affectionately know as “Sarge” by many of the school children in the Cassia County School District, whom she taught as a substitute teacher, primarily in Malta and Declo. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she has been given the opportunity to serve throughout her life. Her faith allowed her to leave this life with the reassurance that she and her love, Jim, will be together again.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Joseph Smith Barlow.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; two sisters, Kerma Barlow Matthews and Colleen Barlow McGhie; one brother, Reese Allen Barlow; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Mon., May 23, at the Malta LDS Church (280 N. 1st Street W.), with Bishop Dallan Spencer officiating. Burial will be in the Valley Vu Cemetery in Malta. Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Sun., May 22, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Mon., May 23, preceding the service at the church.
